Welcome To The Cotswolds

The ‘Cotswolds Area’ officially spreads across 790 square miles, settled within the northern part of the southwest region of England and encompassing the six English counties of Wiltshire, Worcestershire, North East Somerset, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Bath and Oxfordshire.

The Cotswolds has officially been named as the UK’s largest “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” and has become a favourite location for both the British and tourists from far and wide. There are many reasons why this picturesque area has stood out to ‘want to be visitors’. With the hillsides (otherwise known as ‘wolds’) as a perfect backdrop for a relaxing holiday in the stunning countryside, with river valleys, water meadows and the ageless villages constructed from the local golden-coloured limestone. The architecture has certain uniqueness about it that one would struggle to not fall in love with! Quite simply an outstanding destination to experience a bit more of what the UK has to offer, it is so easy to imagine yourself back in the 1700’s as many of the market towns have preserved the look and feel of a bygone era.

The area is full of quaint towns and absolutely wonderful countryside just waiting to be explored, with some of the more popular towns used as a base when touring the Cotswolds. Areas such as Gloucester, Stroud, Warwick, Malvern, Oxford, Stratford Upon Avon, Swindon, Worcester and Cheltenham.

Oxford is “The City of Beautiful Spires” and has a fascinating history dating back to Roman times when it was turned into a pottery centre, later during Saxon times into a religious centre on the site of today’s Oxford cathedral. Today it is a busy sophisticated town with its ancient university at the heart of proceedings and a fast growing hi-tech society. With this unusual eclectic mix of both modern and ancient, there is plenty for tourists to see and do whether it’s exploring the plethora of historic buildings, museums or colleges or eating out at one of the fine dining restaurants, Oxford has it all. It has the added bonus of being situated only a few miles from one of the most beautiful regions in England -“The Cotswolds”, as well as easy access to London by rail or road.
